Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed the club expect to complete the signing of Gareth McAuley in the next few days, according to multiple sources.
The experienced defender is now a free agent following the cancellation of his contract with West Bromwich Albion after the Baggies suffered relegation to the Championship this summer. Gerrard is keen on adding the 38-year-old to his ranks with a season-long deal in place, but he says there s no hurry and adds that McAuley will be their last signing for now.
McAuley started his career with Lincoln City in League Two where he spent two years before moving to Leicester City in 2006, then playing in the Championship. After another two seasons he left Leicester for Ipswich Town, and eventually settled at West Brom in 2011, where he played seven years of Premier League football until the Baggies relegation this year.
He has also accumulated 79 caps for Northern Ireland and played at Euro 2016.
