Koscielny signs new Arsenal deal

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has agreed a new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The France international has committed his future to the club, Arsenal confirmed on Friday, with manager Arsene Wenger stating his pleasure with the deal.

Laurent has proven himself to be an outstanding player since joining us in 2010 and has showed his quality once again this season, he told the club s official website.

I am delighted he has decided to commit his future to the club.

Koscielny added: I am very proud to have reached agreement with the club on a new contract.

“I have enjoyed four great years at Arsenal already, and I look forward to continuing to help the team in the years to come.

Chile lose Fernandez

Chile have suffered a blow ahead of the FIFA World Cup, with key midfielder Matias Fernandez ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.

Fiorentina player Fernandez told reporters on Tuesday he had been carrying the problem for several weeks and surgery was now required to solve the issue, meaning he will be forced to sit out the tournament in Brazil next month.

River Plate and Gremio claimed first-leg wins against Guarani and Godoy Cruz respectively in the last-16 of the Copa Libertadores.

On Tuesday, 2015 champions River triumphed 2-0 at Paraguayan hosts Guarani in the first knockout round of South America s premier club competition.

Guingamp forward Nathael Julan has died at the age of 23, the Ligue 2 club announced on Friday.

According to local reports, the player was involved in a car accident on the road to Pordic, near the town of Saint-Brieuc.

Guingamp confirmed the news via a statement, saying:  The club had the immense pain of learning this afternoon of the accidental death of their player Nathael Julan.

Danilo sets out Man City Champions League ambition

Danilo wants to end Manchester City s wait to win the Champions League after joining from holders Real Madrid.

The Brazil right-back signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, with City completing a deal believed to be worth £26.5million on Sunday.

After joining Madrid from Porto in 2015, Danilo won the Champions League in his first season with Zinedine Zidane s men, before helping them retain the trophy as well as win LaLiga, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup last campaign.
